The well-established reggae label ARIWA Records was started in 1979 by Neil Fraser aka The Mad Professor in Thornton Heath, Croydon near Central London and distributes via H’art since May. ARIWA records soon made an impact on the UK Reggae scene, recording and releasing long playing records by artists such as the Ranking Ann, Johnny Clarke, Macka B, Mad Professor and singles by Sister Audrey and Sergeant Pepper. As the record label took off Neil set up ARIWA studios at Whitehorse Lane, Croydon to produce and record artists like Lee Scratch Perry, Jah Shaka, Twinkle Brothers, Junior Brown, Ruts DC and Tony Benjamin, U Roy etc. Some of these recordings then went onto being released on the ARIWA record label. By the mid 1980’s ARIWA was considered one of the most important Reggae labels in the UK, recording and producing both new and old talent at the ARIWA Recording studio set up. The 1990’s saw ARIWA Records profile increase even further with studio work such as remixes for the likes of Sade and Jamariqui and a studio album with Massive Attack (Massive Attack v The Mad Professor “No Protection”), which went onto be a million selling record. Further label releases from Lee Scratch Perry, Luciano and the legendary Cedric Congo singer with the legendary Congo’s whose world-famous LP “Heart Of The Congo’s” was recorded at and by Lee Scratch Perry at his Black Ark studio have cemented the ARIWA Record label.
H’art is also looking forward to the collaboration with Tonzonen Records. The German independent label was founded in 2014 to release unique and timeless music offside the mainstream. The label is focusing on strong limited, high quality 180gr. vinyl editions. These products are collector’s items as well as a statement for the musical range. Tonzonen Records has its continual growing fan base within the scene of stoner, progressive and psychedelic rock.
Compass Records has been established by the two musicians Alison Brown and Garry West and is starting their collaboration with H’art. The US-Billboard Magazine named the label as “one of the greatest independent labels of the last decade”. Alison Brown is a Grammy winning pioneer in progressive bluegrass music and her explorations of Jazz, Pop, World Music, Folk, Americana and Celtic music is reflected in the label’s diverse roster, which includes the largest Celtic catalog in the world.
Head of Product Management Manuela Nickel (H’art Musik) welcomes the new label partners: “The new partner labels represent the diversity of our catalogue and strength the significance of our upcoming releases. The Mad Professor of ARIWA Records complements our portfolio as an additional legend, who remained loyal to his own label.”
